134-Unit Residential Complex Astane

Located in Shiraz adjacent to Astane Street is the Astane residential project which has generated an extensive typological variety of dwellings that are laid out in a series of blocks with a clear identity.
The aim of the project was to create an attractive habitat that combined the concept of urbanity and density with those of tranquility and privacy. A strong sense of order was used in the initial design concept to create and contain a space in and around the buildings.
The complex consists of 134 units. The distribution of the apartment’s facilities the use of natural lighting, views and intimacy. The language formula chosen by the architects represents a deliberate allusion to the traditional architecture of the dwellings that occupied the area.
The apartments are developed in two separate U shape longitudinal volumes facing each other; one that skirts the streets and one that runs along the neighboring dwellings. Four individual apartment blocks are also placed within the center embraced by the surrounding courtyards and apartments. These dwellings were conceived as a special riddle that is developed in both height and depth; volume extrusions also play a vital role in forming the buildings volume, a slight touch which arouses a sense of playfulness and dynamism. Thus each unit enjoys light and views, with roof garden terraces.
